ChapterBrief · Manhwa
The best manhwa to read in 2026: 20 recommendations across action, romance, isekai, and completed titles, ranked honestly for 2025 and 2026.

Before picking from this best manhwa to read list: how much do you want to commit?
An ongoing 600-chapter epic and a completed 90-chapter thriller rank highly by completely different criteria. Conflating the two is the main source of reader regret in this genre: starting a long ongoing series and hitting hiatus 50 chapters in, or skipping a completed short run because it feels too small.
Completed, bingeable now: Solo Leveling (179 ch), Weak Hero (268 ch, Part 1 standalone at ~109), True Beauty (117 episodes), Surviving Romance (100 ch), Unholy Blood (92 ch).
Long ongoing or on hiatus: Tower of God (652+ episodes, hiatus since Feb 2025), Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (ongoing WEBTOON), Lookism (600+, active), The Beginning After the End (240+, ongoing).
Know your commitment preference first. Every pick below is annotated for completion status. Every series here I've read at least 60 chapters of. If something is great but slow to start, that's noted.
TL;DR: 30 manhwa worth reading in 2026, organized by commitment level and genre. For beginners: Solo Leveling (completed, 179 chapters). For romance: The Remarried Empress (completed January 2026). For long reads: Tower of God (652+ episodes, on hiatus). Every entry has platform and completion status noted.
This list covers 30 manhwa worth reading in 2026, organized by genre. The selection spans action and system-fantasy, romance, thriller and horror, isekai and reincarnation, and completed titles that can be binged now. Every entry was read to at least 60 chapters before being included. Entries that are great but slow to start have that noted explicitly.
The organizing principle is a mix of quality, accessibility, and current relevance. "Quality" means the series does something its genre neighbors do not. "Accessibility" means a new reader can enter the series without deep prior knowledge of manhwa conventions. "Current relevance" means the series is either actively publishing in 2026, has a recent anime adaptation, or has a completed run that holds up under current reader expectations. All three criteria contributed to the final 20.
Completion status is annotated for every entry because that is the most important practical decision a reader makes before starting: whether to commit to an ongoing series or a finished one. Completed series are flagged with chapter counts and end dates. Ongoing series are flagged with current chapter counts and update frequency. Platform information covers the primary official English-language source for each title.
The selection criteria: does the series get meaningfully better after chapter 30, is it available in official English, and does it do something that distinguishes it from everything else in its genre?
Series that peaked early and went on indefinite hiatus were mostly excluded unless the finished chapters are worth the read regardless. Ongoing hiatuses are flagged explicitly. This list is honest about what it is: a starting point for finding the best manhwa to read, not an exhaustive ranking of every series ever published.
Solo Leveling
Solo Leveling is complete. That's the whole case.
I've reread the final arc twice. Jang Sung-Rak (DUBU) drew some of the best action pages in manhwa history and died before he got to see how the fandom received it, which I think about more than I probably should when recommending this to people. The story is Chugong's: Sung Jin-Woo starts as the weakest hunter in a world full of dimensional gates and ends somewhere else entirely. 179 chapters. Decisive ending. No ongoing-hiatus roulette.
Available on WEBTOON (paid), Tappytoon, and Tapas. Solo Leveling review | Reading order guide | Manhwa like Solo Leveling
Best for: Anyone new to manhwa. The learning curve is minimal.
Caveat: Chapters 1-20 are setup. Chapter 25 is where it clicks.
Tower of God
600+ chapters and counting. SIU's webtoon built an entire mythology across three seasons. Season 3 wrapped in February 2025, and a spin-off focused on Urek Mazino launched the same year. The series is currently on hiatus, which is a real consideration before you start.
Season 1 alone (78 chapters) is strong enough to justify reading on its own terms. Most Tower of God readers would tell you the hiatus just means you have time to catch up before it returns. Tower of God review | Reading guide | Manhwa like Tower of God
Where to read: WEBTOON (free with fast-pass), Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want dense world-building and aren't scared of commitment
Caveat: Characters die. Frequently. The story does not protect fan favorites.
Omniscient Reader
singNsong's series gives its protagonist a genuinely unusual advantage: he's read the web novel that became the world he's now trapped inside. The conceit sounds like a gimmick. It isn't. His knowledge is an active burden as much as a tool, and the story earns every major development.
The web novel foundation is complete. The web novel is completed at 551 chapters. The manhwa adaptation is ongoing on WEBTOON. Available on WEBTOON and Naver. For a full breakdown of what makes it work, see the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint review. New to the series and deciding between novel and manhwa? The ORV reading guide explains the difference and where to start. If you finished ORV and want what to read next, see manhwa like ORV, ranked by meta-narrative depth rather than genre label.
Best for: Readers who like meta-narratives and deep emotional investment in secondary characters
Caveat: The first 30 chapters require patience. Fully delivers around chapter 50.
TurtleMe's Western-style isekai follows a king reincarnated as a child prodigy in a world built around magic and mana cultivation. The art by Fuyuki23 is detailed and consistent. Season 2 of the Crunchyroll anime premiered in 2026. Physical editions run to 10 volumes through Yen Press.
At 240+ chapters, the pacing is slower than most Korean isekai. This reads closer to a JRPG than a dungeon-crawler. That's a feature, not a bug, for readers who prefer deliberate power growth.
Where to read: Tapas, Yen Press physical
Best for: Fans of methodical progression and Western fantasy aesthetics
Caveat: The tonal shift around chapter 120 is sharp. Some readers love it; others find it jarring. TBATE review | Reading guide
Isekai is manhwa's most crowded subgenre. We ranked the 15 best for 2026 specifically.
Best Isekai Manhwa Ranked for 2026 →
For a deeper breakdown of the isekai subgenre (which accounts for roughly a third of this list), see the best isekai manhwa ranked for 2026, which covers 15 picks with more detail per series.
Weak Hero
268 chapters. Complete. No wish-fulfillment.
Seopass and Kim Jin-Seok built a school-action series around a protagonist who wins not by being stronger but by being smarter and more prepared. The series ends on its own terms with a resolved conclusion. A Netflix Korean drama adaptation covered the first arc. The manhwa goes further.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers tired of wish-fulfillment, wanting grounded character-driven conflict
Caveat: The subject matter (school violence, social hierarchy) is handled honestly. Not a light read. Weak Hero review | Reading guide
Eleceed
Son Je-Ho and ZHENA passed 400+ chapters in 2026 with no signs of slowing. The premise is deceptively simple: a guy with cat-speed reflexes who channels those powers through an actual cat, but the execution is technically sharp, especially in fight choreography.
If you want ongoing action without Tower of God's mythology commitment, Eleceed is the call. Weekly Tuesday updates.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want solid action without complex lore
Caveat: The tournament arc (starting around chapter 100) is where the series really hits its stride. The earlier chapters are lighter.
Anime: Confirmed for 2026. See the Eleceed anime 2026 release details.
For the broader action-manhwa genre (school action, tournament arcs, guild combat), the best action manhwa 2026 list covers 12 picks by subgenre.
The Greatest Estate Developer
The protagonist is reincarnated as a noble character written specifically to fail and die. He survives using real-world civil engineering knowledge to solve fantasy-world problems before the plot can kill him off.
One of the highest-rated isekai series on MyAnimeList, 220+ chapters serializing actively in 2026. More puzzle-solving than combat in structure.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want problem-solving isekai rather than pure combat progression
Caveat: Some chapters are structured as engineering puzzle episodes. Readers who want consistent fight scenes may find it uneven.
If the appeal of Solo Leveling is specifically the overpowered protagonist arc, we ranked 12 of the best OP MC series.
Best Manhwa with OP MC →
For action series built around stats and skill windows, the best system fantasy manhwa list covers 10 picks that lean hard on the mechanics, from pure dungeon-crawlers to ability-awakening series.
True Beauty
825.9 million views on WEBTOON as of 2022. Completed June 2023. I watched the tvN drama first, then read the manhwa, and the manhwa is the better version: it covers more ground and the ending is more honest about what the story was actually about.
Yaongyi's series follows a girl who builds a second social identity through makeup and has to figure out which one she actually wants to be. The premise is lighter than that sounds, then gets less light. Eight published volumes.
Where to read: WEBTOON (free), Naver Webtoon
Best for: Entry-level romance readers, drama fans
Caveat: The love triangle arc is polarizing. The series recovers and delivers a clear conclusion. True Beauty review | Reading guide
The Remarried Empress
Seven years. 247 chapters. Completed January 2026.
Empress Navier Elise handles her husband's infidelity with remarkable composure while a political remarriage becomes a genuine option. The court intrigue is more layered than most romance manhwa, the art is consistently good across its run, and it earns its resolution.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want court politics alongside romance; completed series
Caveat: The first 40 chapters move slowly. The plot momentum picks up significantly after that.
Who Made Me a Princess
Plutus and Spoon's series stands out in the otome isekai genre for centering the father-daughter relationship above the romance. Athanasia De Alger Obelize reincarnates as a princess doomed to be executed by her emperor father and spends 125 chapters across three seasons trying to change that outcome.
Completed April 2022. The art is expressive in a way that most romance manhwa isn't.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Tappytoon
Best for: Character-focused isekai, readers who want warmth over action
Caveat: The final season pacing is rushed compared to the first two.
For more court intrigue and villainess-protagonist series, the best villainess manhwa 2026 list covers 10 series in this lane, including several with darker tone than Who Made Me a Princess.
Lookism
Park Tae-Joon's 500+ episode series about a student who can shift between an unattractive and an attractive body explores appearance and class with more seriousness than the premise suggests. A Netflix anime adaptation (Studio Mir, 2022) covers the first arc.
The manhwa goes substantially further into the underground fighting organization that dominates the later story. It becomes a different series from chapter 200 onward. Lookism review | Reading guide
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want drama with action as a secondary element
Caveat: The scope expands dramatically after chapter 100. This is not a contained story.
Surviving Romance
Lee Yone's 100-chapter series follows a girl who reincarnates into a romance novel she's read, but something's gone wrong with the plot. It's a horror-romance blend that commits to both halves. Funny in the first 20 chapters. Increasingly not funny in the back half. I didn't expect to be unsettled by it.
Completed July 2023. Anime adaptation in production from Studio Root, PV released February 2026.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Short complete series, horror-romance, readers who like meta-narrative structures
Caveat: The horror is real enough that content-sensitive readers should check early chapters first.
Binging completed series? Romance manhwa has the deepest catalog of finished titles: 12 picks with chapter counts and platform notes for each.
Best Romance Manhwa in 2026 →
Legend of the Northern Blade
A martial arts revenge series about rebuilding a destroyed sect. The art visibly improves as the run progresses, and the climax pays off every setup from the early chapters. For a genre that usually drops threads by chapter 100, this is genuinely rare. The forum consensus on the ending is about as positive as it gets for a completed manhwa.
Where to read: Kakao Page, Tappytoon
Best for: Readers who like cultivation-adjacent martial arts without cultivation system bloat
Caveat: The opening arc moves slower than the genre average. Commit to 30 chapters before judging.
Unholy Blood
Lina Im's 92-chapter vampire revenge series is one of the few supernatural action manhwa that ends before it has a chance to drift. The protagonist is a half-vampire hunting a vampire organization responsible for her family's death. Clean action, personal stakes, full resolution.
Physical complete collection available through Yen Press in 8 volumes.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Yen Press physical
Best for: Readers who want a compact complete action-revenge story
Caveat: 92 chapters goes fast. Some readers wish it was longer.
Return of the Blossoming Blade
Season 3 started April 14, 2026. It is the 2022 Presidential Award winner for manhwa. The protagonist wakes up 100 years after his death to rebuild his martial arts sect, and the comedy comes from the gap between his century-old standards and the modern sect's mediocrity. 160+ episodes and actively serializing.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Cultivation readers who want comedy and combat together, not as trade-offs
Caveat: 16-month gap between Season 2 and 3; readers starting now skip that wait entirely.
Reading guide: Return of the Blossoming Blade reading guide | Review
Our full guide to finished manhwa series: 15 picks with chapter counts, no ongoing hiatuses, and clean endings included.
Best Completed Manhwa to Binge →
A Returner's Magic Should Be Special
A mage reincarnated before a world-ending calamity, with full knowledge of what's coming. The strategy-over-power approach distinguishes it from pure action isekai. 268 chapters, completed June 2024. Available on Tappytoon/Kakao.
Where to read: Kakao Page, Tappytoon
Best for: Readers who want strategy over raw power in their isekai
Caveat: Pacing slows in the middle chapters before the final arc picks up.
Full review | Season 2 anime (Crunchyroll 2026)
Trash of the Count's Family
A transmigration into a villain character who knows how the original novel ends. The protagonist spends the series exploiting that knowledge while trying not to change the plot in ways that make things worse. Actively serializing, consistent quality, underrated outside dedicated manhwa communities.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Kakao Page
Best for: Transmigration isekai readers, fans of unreliable-advantage protagonists
Doom Breaker
Blue-Deep's regression action series completed two seasons at 101 chapters total. Currently on hiatus. Season 3 has been confirmed but has no release date. The regression premise is common, but the execution here is sharper than most iterations of it.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want regression fantasy with a consistent update schedule
Nano Machine
272 episodes on WEBTOON, currently in its final arc (nearing completion as of mid-2026). The protagonist receives nanotechnology from a future descendant that upgrades his martial arts in a cultivation world. The premise sounds wild; the execution commits to it. 313 chapters of content available as of mid-2026, with the finale approaching.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon, Kakao
Best for: Cultivation readers who want a sci-fi mechanical twist, or system-fantasy readers entering murim for the first time. Nano Machine review | Reading guide
For more cultivation-world series (xianxia, murim, and martial arts manhwa), the best cultivation manhwa list goes deeper into the subgenre with 12 picks.
Hardcore Leveling Warrior
The original series completed March 2022 at 446+ chapters, with sequel series still active. The game-world isekai setting (a player who was ranked #1 before a character wipe drops him to the bottom) has a darker tone than most in this genre. Friday WEBTOON updates on the sequel.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want game-world isekai with more edge than standard fare
Overgeared
Grid inherits a production class (Pagma's Successor, a blacksmith line) instead of a combat class, and wins by forging better gear than anyone else can rather than out-leveling opponents. Ongoing, adapting a completed 2,059-chapter novel, so the story knows exactly where it is going. The first 30 chapters are rough; it clicks around chapter 50.
Where to read: Tapas, WEBTOON
Best for: System-fantasy readers who want crafting and economy, not just power scaling. Overgeared review | reading guide
The Return of the Disaster-Class Hero
The strongest hero is betrayed and killed, then returns to rebuild his strength and settle the debt. Ongoing on WEBTOON. Familiar betrayal-and-payback framing executed with strong art and a brisk pace that skips the genre's usual mid-arc sag.
Where to read: WEBTOON
Best for: Readers who want clean revenge-action choreography
Level Up with the Gods
A regressor returns to the past carrying knowledge of a coming catastrophe and climbs the Tower again, this time with the gods watching. Ongoing. One of the more popular Tower-climb regression series for readers who finished Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and want the same structure.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Tower-climb and regression fans
SSS-Class Suicide Hunter
A hunter gains a skill that copies the ability of whoever kills him, which turns his own death into a deliberate tactic. Ongoing, adapting a completed novel. Darker and more strategic than the premise sounds.
Where to read: Tapas
Best for: Readers who want a death-mechanic twist on the hunter genre. Reading guide | review
Volcanic Age
A Mount Hua elder dies and wakes 60 years in the past as a low-ranking disciple, carrying a full lifetime of martial knowledge into his younger body. Completed at 303 chapters, so the entire arc is bingeable. One of the most respected murim regression series.
Where to read: KakaoPage, Tapas
Best for: Murim readers who want a completed regression epic
The Breaker: Eternal Force
The third installment of The Breaker saga, continuing Shioon's modern martial-arts story in the Murim's hidden world. Ongoing. Read the first two parts (both completed) before starting this one, since it assumes you know the history.
Where to read: Print via Ablaze; digital availability varies by region
Best for: Modern martial-arts fans who have finished Parts 1 and 2
The dominant 2026 reading wave is regression, second-chance, and official sequel series. These four are the ones worth starting this year.
Solo Leveling: Ragnarok
The official sequel, following the next generation, centered on Sung Jin-Woo's son, into a fresh wave of gates and monarchs. Ongoing. The safest 2026 pick-up for anyone who finished the original and wants more of that world.
Where to read: Tappytoon, KakaoPage
Best for: Solo Leveling fans who want the canonical continuation
The World After the Fall
When the Tower's "Fall" forces everyone else to accept a system reset, one man refuses and keeps climbing the original way. Ongoing, from the dense Tower-fantasy school. The art is strong, and the tone is heavier and more deliberate than most regression action.
Where to read: WEBTOON, Naver Webtoon
Best for: Readers who want serious, high-stakes Tower fantasy
Damn Reincarnation
The descendant of a legendary hero is reincarnated into his own family line generations later and sets out to reclaim the strength his bloodline has lost. Ongoing. Clean power-fantasy comfort reading with a genuinely likable lead.
Where to read: WEBTOON, KakaoPage
Best for: Readers who want straightforward, well-drawn reincarnation action
Villains Are Destined to Die
A player is trapped inside a brutal otome game as its villainess, Penelope, with a save-file mechanic and an affection meter that decides whether she lives or dies. Ongoing. The regression and second-chance structure applied to the villainess genre, with real tension instead of wish fulfillment.
Where to read: WEBTOON
Best for: Villainess and otome-isekai readers who want actual stakes
Knowing which platform to use is half the battle when looking for the best manhwa to read. Here's where each service sits.

Tappytoon and Kakao Page handle most premium Kakao-licensed content including Legend of the Northern Blade and A Returner's Magic Should Be Special.
Physical editions: Yen Press and Seven Seas Entertainment publish physical volumes for many popular series. Unholy Blood, The Beginning After the End, True Beauty, and The Remarried Empress all have physical runs.

What is the best manhwa to read right now in 2026?
Solo Leveling: complete at 179 chapters, exceptional art, accessible power progression. For ongoing series, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint is the most-discussed. Tower of God has been on hiatus since Feb 2025, but its 652+ episodes are worth reading. New to the format? The best manhwa for beginners guide has lower-barrier entry points.
What is the difference between manhwa and manga?
Manhwa is Korean and reads left-to-right in a vertical scroll format built for digital reading. Manga is Japanese and reads right-to-left in traditional page layouts. Manhwa is almost entirely digital-first, published on platforms like WEBTOON and Naver.
Are any of these manhwa free to read?
Several are partially free. WEBTOON offers free access with a daily pass system. Tower of God, Lookism, Eleceed, and The Remarried Empress are all readable free with some wait time. Solo Leveling requires paid access on most English platforms. Completed older series often unlock full free access.
Which manhwa on this list are fully completed?
Completed series: Solo Leveling (179 chapters), Weak Hero (268 chapters), True Beauty (June 2023), The Remarried Empress (247 chapters, January 2026), Unholy Blood (92 chapters), Legend of the Northern Blade, The God of High School (569 chapters), and Surviving Romance (100 chapters). Return of the Blossoming Blade is ongoing. Season 3 started April 2026.
What should a beginner start with?
Solo Leveling. It's complete, the art is exceptional, and you need no prior knowledge of manhwa conventions. True Beauty is the best entry point for romance. Weak Hero works for anyone who wants grounded action without supernatural elements.
Which manhwa have anime adaptations in 2026?
The Beginning After the End Season 2 (Crunchyroll, 2026), A Returner's Magic Should Be Special Season 2 (2026), Surviving Romance (in production), and Lookism (Netflix, 2022). Solo Leveling's anime ran in 2024. Full platform and premiere details: manhwa with anime adaptations in 2026.
Are there good manhwa under 100 chapters?
Unholy Blood wraps at 92 chapters with a fully resolved story. Surviving Romance hits exactly 100 chapters. Both Unholy Blood and Surviving Romance have clean endings and are worth reading specifically because they don't overstay their welcome.
