If you want one manhwa redemption arc that's actually earned, read Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. The change doesn't happen to the narrator, it happens to the cold regressor he's been reading about for years, and the series spends its whole run getting there. That's the bar for this list: a turn that costs something, takes time, and makes you reread earlier scenes differently.
Most series hand you a redemption beat instead. The villain turns, everyone forgives him by the next chapter, and nothing he lost stays lost. A regression story is especially prone to this, because going back in time can wipe the slate clean. The seven below were picked because the past keeps weighing on the character after the turn.
Three things we looked for, briefly:
- The past has weight. What the character did, or failed to do, shapes how people treat him now.
- The cost is specific. He gives up something concrete: a goal, a role, the identity he built.
- The forgiveness isn't automatic. Some of these arcs never fully resolve, and the series lets you argue about it.

1. Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, original story by singNsong, adaptation by UMI, art by Sleepy-C (cover via AniList).
Kim Dokja is an office worker whose only interest was his favorite web novel, Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse, until it becomes real and he's the only person who knows how the world ends. The redemption arc isn't his. It belongs to Yoo Joonghyuk, the novel's protagonist, a regressor who has run this apocalypse many times over before Dokja ever meets him, and who treats the people around him as tools for the next attempt.
What makes it land is that he never turns warm. He stays blunt, calculating and often wrong. The change shows up in what he stops treating as disposable, and it's built over the whole series instead of a single mid-season scene. The Korean title is 전지적 독자 시점, and fans shorten it to ORV. WEBTOON's English release, published as Omniscient Reader, is on a season break: the latest episode went up on June 1, 2026, under a "will return!" note.

2. Doom Breaker

Zephyr is the last human fighting evil in a world the gods have abandoned. Tartarus, the god of destruction, kills him, and the gods who found his fights entertaining send him ten years into the past, back to when he was a slave. The official pitch asks whether he can get his revenge on Tartarus and save the woman he loves, and that "and" is the whole arc. Every person he decides to protect costs time he'd planned to spend on the revenge.
Doom Breaker is an original webtoon, not a novel adaptation, which is part of why readers are so attached to it. In a September thread asking whether it's really coming back, one reader put it this way: "Besides being an original work, not adapted from a novel, it's incredibly good."
The wait is long. The English listing stops at the Season 2 finale from March 2024, and Cheong-Dam wrote on the series' Naver author page in July 2026 that the return is expected sometime between autumn and winter. WEBTOON's trailer is the quickest way to see the tone:

3. Return of the Blossoming Blade

Cheongmyeong of the Mount Hua Sect ends a war that nearly wiped out the Ten Great Sects by striking down Cheonma, leader of the Demonic Cult, then dies of his wounds full of regret. He wakes a hundred years later to find his sect "reduced to a mere shadow of itself," and sets out to restore Mount Hua to its former glory.
It isn't a regression, and that matters. He can't undo the war. All he can do is rebuild what's left, and the series turns every training session and every bullied disciple into a kind of penance for the sect he couldn't save. It's also very funny, which makes the guilt underneath it hit harder when it shows. Fans call it RotBB. It updates on WEBTOON every Wednesday and is deep into Season 3.
4. Peerless Dad
Peerless Dad (아비무쌍), story by Gyeong-Chan No, art by Hyeon-Seok Lee (image: Korean web novel cover).
Ga-Jang No is a strong, humble martial artist who, after his wife's death, just wants an easy job so he can raise his three babies. He's happy to pull guard duty if it means getting home safe every night. Then a cult starts stealing children, and the man who'd settled for small work has to decide how much of his old strength he's willing to use.
This is the quietest arc on the list: not a sinner earning forgiveness, but a fighter trying to stay a father while the world keeps pulling him back. It's finished at 296 chapters, and the English edition runs on Tapas under the title Father, Unrivaled.
5. Lookism
Lookism (외모지상주의), story and art by Taejun Pak (cover via AniList).
Daniel is an unattractive loner who wakes up in a different body: tall, handsome and stronger than he's ever been. WEBTOON's pitch ends on the question that drives the arc: how far will he go to keep that body, and his secrets? The interesting part isn't the glow-up. It's whether power makes him better or just gives old damage a wider reach.
Lookism has been running since 2014 and updates every Sunday on WEBTOON, where it's also promoted as the original behind Netflix's animated series. It's long, so treat this as a commitment pick.
6. Solo Leveling
Solo Leveling (나 혼자만 레벨업), original story by Chugong, art by DUBU (REDICE STUDIO) (cover via AniList).
Sung Jinwoo isn't redeeming a sin. He starts as "the weakest hunter of all mankind," someone who has absorbed his own expendability, and the arc underneath the power scaling is how that belief gets taken apart. It's a self-worth story more than a moral one, which is why it sits lower here.

7. The Beginning After the End
King Grey has unrivaled strength, wealth and prestige, and an empty life behind it. Reincarnated into a world of magic and monsters, he gets a second chance, and Tapas's own description says correcting the mistakes of his past won't be his only challenge.
It's last here because the arc is the least settled. The premise promises a reckoning with a past life, and whether the series pays that off is still the open question. Our TBATE review rates it 7.5/10 and goes deeper. The comic is on hiatus on Tapas after Episode 259 (October 29, 2026), with no return date.
Who should read which
If you want the long, earned version, read Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and be patient. If you want revenge with a conscience, Doom Breaker, though only if you can live with an open-ended break. If guilt turning into something useful is what got you, Return of the Blossoming Blade. And if you want an arc that's already finished, Peerless Dad is the safest pick here.
Not a redemption story in the strict sense, but if moral ambiguity is what you're after, Weak Hero is worth a look: Gray takes apart a school run by bullies with calculated, brutal fights, and the series doesn't tell you whether he's right. It finished in 2023.
