Anyone looking for anime like Omniscient Reader runs into the same problem first: Omniscient Reader itself isn't on screen yet. Crunchyroll announced the TV anime at Anime Expo 2024, and AniList still lists it as not yet released with only a year, 2027, and no month. Until it airs, the best stand-in is A Returner's Magic Should Be Special. Its hero has already watched the world end, wakes up 13 years earlier knowing what's coming, and gathers his friends to change it. Season 2 is airing right now.

Pick by the part of ORV you'd miss most. If it's Kim Dokja knowing how the story ends, start with A Returner's Magic. If it's Yoo Joonghyuk dying and starting over, go to Re:ZERO. If it's a god running a game where people die, take The Future Diary. And if you mostly want Korean webtoon action animated well, Solo Leveling's comic is the one AniList users recommend most on ORV's page. For comics instead, see our manhwa like Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint list.
What ORV fans want from anime like Omniscient Reader
AniList's entry for the ORV anime sums up the hook in one line: when Dokja's favorite web novel "suddenly becomes reality, he is the only person who knows how the world will end." AniList tags it Post-Apocalyptic, Death Game, Gods and Meta. That's four separate draws, and almost no anime has all of them. So a search for anime like Omniscient Reader usually means one of them: foreknowledge, starting over, gods watching humans die, or a Korean webtoon that's already been adapted.
One reader put it plainly in an r/Animesuggest thread: "I like story about the main character who knows future events, details about the world and people around him, and he tries to survive or change the world he lives in." That sentence is a good filter for the list below.
We read the comic's prologue, "Episode 0 - Prologue," on WEBTOON to see which of those things the story leads with. It opens on a reading list, not a monster: "It was a serialized web novel that no one seemed to read." The counter reads "Total number of episodes: 3,149," and Dokja thinks, "I'm the only reader and it even took me ten years to get to the last episode." Then the subway shakes, a phone screen says "I know how this story goes," and the narration lands the premise: he "became the only person who knew how the world was going to end." Foreknowledge comes first. Everything else follows from it.

1. A Returner's Magic Should Be Special
A Returner's Magic Should Be Special (key visual via AniList).
The closest premise. AniList's synopsis has Desir Herrman and his friends "lose their battle to the Destruction Dragon," and "the world comes to an end." Then he opens his eyes "to find himself 13 years in the past," and Season 2's synopsis adds that he is "now armed with knowledge of the grim future." Like Dokja, he knows what's coming. Like Dokja, he rebuilds a team around that knowledge: he "reassembles his friends once again to save the world!"
The difference is how he learned the future. Dokja read it; Desir lived through it. That makes Desir closer to Yoo Joonghyuk than to Dokja, and the school setting (AniList tags it School and Magic) is gentler than ORV's subway. AniList users recommend the comic on ORV's page 110 times.
AniList: TV, 12 episodes, fall 2023, Arvo Animation, average score 69. Season 2 started in October 2026 and AniList lists it as releasing. Streams on Crunchyroll. Our Season 2 guide covers the schedule.
2. Solo Leveling
Solo Leveling (key visual via AniList).
The pick AniList users make most often. On the Omniscient Reader comic's AniList page, Solo Leveling has 1,382 user recommendations, more than five times the next title (SSS-Class Revival Hunter, 248). AniList's synopsis calls Seong Jin-U "the world's weakest hunter," who comes back from a dungeon with "the System, a program only he could see."
What it shares is the setting and the feel: modern Korea, monsters pouring in, a game-style system, the weakest hunter climbing to the top. What it lacks is the reader's trick. Jin-U has no idea what happens next, and there is no story within the story. Our Solo Leveling anime review covers how the adaptation holds up.
AniList: TV, 12 episodes, winter 2024, A-1 Pictures, average score 80. Season 2, Arise from the Shadow, ran 13 episodes in winter 2025 and scores 84. Streams on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
3. Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (key visual via AniList).
The pick for Yoo Joonghyuk fans. AniList's synopsis says Subaru "has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world," and adds the line that matters: "But only he remembers what has happened since." Each death teaches him something nobody else knows, which is the regressor's life in ORV.
Subaru is no strategist at the start, and the show leans hard on suffering: AniList lists Psychological among its genres and tags it Tragedy. It's also an isekai with Romance among its genres, so the apocalypse is personal rather than citywide.
AniList: TV, 25 episodes, spring 2016, WHITE FOX, average score 81. Streams on Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu.
If you'd rather read than watch, Completed Manhwa Like ORV → lists finished series to read while ORV's comic is on break.
4. The Future Diary
The Future Diary (key visual via AniList).
The pick for ORV's scenarios. AniList's synopsis has Yuki pulled into "a battle royale with eleven others" by Deus Ex Machina, "The God of Time and Space." Each contestant gets a diary that can "predict the future," and "within the next 90 days, the contestants must try to survive until there is only one left standing." A god sets the rules, humans fight, and the one with better information wins. Among anime like ORV, it's the closest to the first scenarios.
It's far darker in a different way. AniList tags include Yandere, Psychosexual and Gore, so check those before you start.
AniList: TV, 26 episodes, fall 2011, Asread, average score 69. Streams on Crunchyroll.
5. Tower of God
Tower of God (key visual via AniList).
The pick for climbing through tests. AniList's synopsis describes a tower that summons "Regulars" with the promise of "granting their deepest desires," and "everything awaits those who reach the top." That's ORV's scenario logic in a different shape: a prize promised from above, and a climb to earn it.
Bam doesn't know the answers in advance, and the first season is about one boy following one girl. AniList users rarely pair it with ORV (3 recommendations on ORV's comic page). It's our own pick: a Korean webtoon adaptation built on trials set by powers above, and AniList tags it Survival.
AniList: TV, 13 episodes, spring 2020, Telecom Animation Film, average score 74. Season 2 ran 26 episodes in summer 2024 from The Answer Studio and scores 66. Streams on Crunchyroll.
6. Steins;Gate
Steins;Gate (key visual via AniList).
The pick for a lead who understands the timeline better than anyone around him. AniList's synopsis has Okabe's "Phone Microwave" turn out to "send emails to the past and thus alter history." Like Dokja, he keeps trying to bend events toward an ending where his people survive. An r/Animesuggest reply to someone who had "recently read omniscient reader" named it alongside Madoka Magica and Evangelion.
There are no monsters, constellations or swords. It starts small, in "a small room in Akihabara," before it turns. It's also the highest-scored show here: AniList users give it 89.
AniList: TV, 24 episodes, spring 2011, WHITE FOX, average score 89. Streams on Crunchyroll.
7. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (key visual via AniList).
The pick if you want the feeling of someone who has already seen the ending. AniList's synopsis has Homura arrive as a transfer student "mysteriously warning Madoka to stay just the way she is." Why she knows what she knows is the show's big reveal, so we'll stop there. AniList tags it Time Loop and Cosmic Horror.
It looks like a magical girl show and plays like a tragedy, and it's over in 12 episodes. It's the same Reddit reply's first suggestion.
AniList: TV, 12 episodes, winter 2011, Shaft, average score 83. Streams on Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu.
8. Overgeared
Overgeared (key visual via AniList).
The Korean webtoon adaptation you can watch week to week right now. AniList users recommend the Overgeared comic on ORV's page 65 times. Grid is "an unlucky man in life" who finds an item that makes him "Pagma's Successor" inside the VR game Satisfy.
It shares less with ORV than anything above: no apocalypse and no foreknowledge, and AniList lists Comedy among its genres. It's here because it's airing now and because ORV readers already pair the comics. Our anime like Overgeared list goes the other direction.
AniList: ONA, 12 episodes, fall 2026, J.C.STAFF, average score 76. AniList notes it streams a week ahead of TV on Prime Video and Crunchyroll, starting September 27, 2026.
Coming next: SSS-Class Revival Hunter
The second-most recommended comic on ORV's AniList page, SSS-Class Revival Hunter (248), has its own TV anime listed for winter 2027 from STUDIO fu. Its hero gets a rare S-rank skill "with one catch: he must die to activate it." Our SSS-Class Revival Hunter anime page tracks it.
Our take: which anime like Omniscient Reader to start with
Start with A Returner's Magic Should Be Special. Of the eight, it's the closest to ORV's promise: a man who knows how the world ends, gathering people to change it. Its AniList score of 69 is modest, but Season 2 is airing, so you can catch up and watch weekly.
Then choose by the part of ORV you miss. Re:ZERO for regression, The Future Diary for the god's game, Steins;Gate and Madoka for the person who knows too much, Solo Leveling for the Korean apocalypse action. Every pick in this list of anime like Omniscient Reader is finished or airing, so none of them leaves you waiting the way ORV's anime does. The comic is still the best version of ORV itself; our Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint reading guide maps the novel against the webtoon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an anime like Omniscient Reader?
A Returner's Magic Should Be Special is the closest. Its hero watches the world end, wakes up 13 years in the past with knowledge of the grim future, and rebuilds his team to change it. Season 2 is airing this fall on Crunchyroll.
Does Omniscient Reader have an anime?
One is in production but not out. Crunchyroll announced the TV anime at Anime Expo 2024, and AniList lists it as not yet released, with 2027 as the start year and no month.
What anime is like ORV with regression?
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. Subaru can rewind death back to a fixed point and is the only one who remembers what happened, which is the closest anime match to Yoo Joonghyuk's regressions.
Is Solo Leveling like Omniscient Reader?
Partly. Both are Korean webtoons about modern South Korea overrun by monsters, and Solo Leveling is the comic AniList users recommend most on Omniscient Reader's page, 1,382 times. Jin-U doesn't know the plot in advance, though.

How we checked this
We read the comic's "Episode 0 - Prologue" on WEBTOON's English website on October 26, 2026; the quotes from it are from the pages we read. Formats, episode counts, seasons, studios, scores, tags, synopses and streaming services come from each show's AniList record, and the recommendation counts from the user recommendations on the Omniscient Reader comic's AniList page, all pulled on October 26, 2026. Scores and counts move as users vote. On October 29 a second reviewer found no source naming Seoul for both stories, so the Solo Leveling comparison now says South Korea. Each fact has a row with a quoted line in our sources table.
