SSS-Class Revival Hunter Anime Release Date: January 2027

The date is set and the cast keeps growing. The manhwa is back in Korean and still stuck in English.

VerdictJanuary 2027 on Fuji TV, the same day on Crunchyroll. A comedy-first director suits a story that wins on wit more than fights; read the first arcs now, before Tapas closes.

The SSS-Class Revival Hunter anime release date is January 2027: Fuji TV in Japan, and Crunchyroll the same day for most of the world outside Asia. Nobody has named the exact day yet. Since the first announcement on September 9, the official site has added a second trailer, eight more cast members and an ending theme, and the manhwa itself has quietly come back in Korean with Season 5. Here's what's locked in, and what it means if you read the webtoon.

Kakao Entertainment confirmed the Fuji TV slot and the same-day Crunchyroll release on October 13. Three days earlier, New York Comic Con had already screened the first episode, so this isn't a show still on the drawing board.

The director is the name we'd watch. Sakurai made The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, a gag series, and the best parts of this story are Gong-ja talking his way out of corners, not sword fights. r/manhwa landed in the same place the day the staff was announced: "Director have amazing track record old anime Saiki k Maid sama The comedy will be amazing but idk about action stuff," one commenter wrote.

The cast so far

The SSS-Class Revival Hunter anime cast started with two leads in September. The October 11 trailer added eight more, including several of the guild leaders who drive the story.

The setup on the official site follows the webtoon. Gong-ja is an F-rank hunter who idolizes the Flame Emperor, the top-ranked hunter. He sees something he shouldn't, gets killed for it, and his death triggers an S+ copy skill: he walks away with the Flame Emperor's own ability to return 24 hours into the past whenever he dies.

The Sword Emperor is the other half of the act: a former top-class hunter who ends up bound to Gong-ja as a ghost through that same copy skill, and who starts treating him as a partner once he sees what the kid can do.

Not everyone loves the look. On the r/manhwa thread about the first visual, the top comment reads: "Gongja does look kinda generic but at the same there's something off about the anime design" (thread). The October trailer softened things a little: "The production quality looks underwhelming, but it's not exactly an action-oriented story, so it might turn out fine" (r/manhwa). We'd agree with the second one.

SSS-Class Revival Hunter anime release date vs the manhwa's Season 5

An older version of this page said the manhwa was on hiatus. That stopped being true on September 26, when Season 5 opened on KakaoPage, on a five-weeks-on, one-week-off schedule. Season 4 had ended at chapter 151 a year earlier. Crunchyroll's own posts show the jump: the September announcement counted 151 Korean episodes, the October one 156.

English readers are still waiting. Tapas posted that same chapter on December 7, 2025 and still shows only its Season 4 hiatus notice, with no Season 5 date. Tapas itself shuts down on March 31, 2027, and anything you unlocked there goes with it; no move to another English platform has been announced (what the shutdown means). Yen Press prints the volumes.

Should you read it before the anime?

Yes, at least the first arcs. The anime's synopsis starts where the webtoon starts, with a weak F-rank hunter and a skill that only works if he dies, so reading ahead costs you nothing and tells you whether the premise is your kind of thing. We'd read on Tapas without buying more Ink than you'll use before March. The SSS-Class Revival Hunter reading guide maps the seasons and the arcs worth pushing through; the review explains why the slow start pays off. If January feels far away, manhwa like SSS-Class Revival Hunter has the closest matches.

One naming note: the fan translation called it SSS-Class Suicide Hunter, and plenty of lists still do. The Korean original is SSS급 죽어야 사는 헌터 (SSS-geup Jugeoya Saneun Hunter), which the Korean publisher's notices shorten to 죽사헌. Crunchyroll, Tapas and Yen Press all use Revival Hunter, so that's the name to search once the anime is out.
