Manhwa on Hiatus: 6 Big Series on Break, October 2026

Manhwa on hiatus right now: Tower of God, Omniscient Reader, Teenage Mercenary and 3 more, checked on WEBTOON, Tapas and Naver, plus how to spot a break.

9 min readBy Sophie LaurentLast reviewed

TL;DR: Six big manhwa on hiatus as of October 2026: Tower of God, Omniscient Reader, Teenage Mercenary, SSS-Class Revival Hunter and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok are on official season breaks, and Doom Breaker hasn't had a new English episode since March 2024. The Beginning After the End is not on hiatus.

Three Korean manhwa covers side by side: Bam from Tower of God, Kim Dokja from Omniscient Reader, and Ijin Yu from Teenage Mercenary

The manhwa on hiatus list below comes from each platform's own notice, not from fan wikis or database tags. We read the English pages on WEBTOON and Tapas, and for Korean series we read Naver Webtoon's own data, which has a break flag. That matters because two common signals are wrong: the "UP EVERY" schedule label stays on during breaks, and AniList still lists all six series as RELEASING.

Key Takeaways

Of the six manhwa on hiatus here, five have an official note saying they will come back, and one has gone quiet without one. The season-break pattern is now normal for big webtoons: a season ends, the platform posts a short notice, and no return date is given.

  • Longest official break: Tower of God, last English episode February 23, 2025.
  • Newest break: Omniscient Reader, whose Korean Season 1 finale (chapter 311) is dated June 9, 2026.
  • On Tapas: SSS-Class Revival Hunter and [Solo Leveling: Ragnarok](/blog/solo-leveling-ragnarok-review), both with a Team Tapas hiatus notice.
  • No notice at all: Doom Breaker, quiet since its Season 2 finale on March 8, 2024.
  • Not on hiatus: The Beginning After the End, still marked "Updates every Thu."

Here is every series on this list, with the newest English episode and the official signal we found on October 9, 2026. Each row links to our fuller page for that series further down.

None of the six has a return date. When a platform says "will return" with no date, that is all anyone outside the studio knows.

How to tell a manhwa is on hiatus

The quick answer: trust the platform's notice and the date of the newest episode, and ignore the schedule label. On WEBTOON, a break shows as a line above the episode list, like "Tower of God will be back!" On Tapas, it's a "Hiatus Announcement" from Team Tapas at the top of the series page.

The schedule label is the trap. Tower of God's page still says "UP EVERY MONDAY" more than a year and a half after its last episode, and Doom Breaker's still says "UP EVERY SATURDAY." Those labels describe the old slot, not the current state.

Databases lag too, so they are a poor way to find manhwa on hiatus. AniList has a HIATUS status, but it listed Tower of God, Omniscient Reader, Teenage Mercenary, SSS-Class Revival Hunter, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and Doom Breaker all as RELEASING on the day we checked. For Korean series, Naver Webtoon is a better source: its series data has a break flag, and it was switched on for Tower of God, Omniscient Reader and Teenage Mercenary.

Two of these series sit on a platform with a closing date, and this explainer covers what Tapas has confirmed so far.

Manhwa on hiatus with an official return note

These five are classic season breaks: the season ended, the platform posted a notice, and the series is not finished. Here is what each one's pages show.

Tower of God

SIU's series has been on break the longest of the five. The English page ends at "[Season 3] Ep. 235 (Season 3 Finale)," dated February 23, 2025, under the note "Tower of God will be back!" On Naver, the newest Korean episode is Part 3 episode 235, dated February 2, 2025, and the break flag is on. It has 1.3B views on English WEBTOON. Our Tower of God reading guide tracks this break in detail.

Omniscient Reader

This is the newest break. On Naver, Korean chapter 311 is labeled the last episode of Season 1, followed by a Season 1 afterword comic, both dated June 9, 2026. ComicsBeat reported that "the story concluded its Season 1 after 311 chapters." The English list on WEBTOON ends at Episode 308, dated June 1, 2026, with the note "Omniscient Reader will return!" No Season 2 date has been posted. WEBTOON's official trailer is below if you want a refresher before the series comes back:

Where the story stands and what to read next are in our Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint reading guide.

Readers took the "Season 1" label hard. In an r/OmniscientReader thread titled "What the flip do you mean Season 1?", the top reply says, "It's almost a half of the novel." That is a reader's estimate, not an official figure, but it explains why fans expect a long wait.

Teenage Mercenary

YC and Rakyeon's series is known in Korean as 입학용병 (Mercenary Enrollment). The English page ends at Episode 276, dated June 23, 2026, with the note "Teenage Mercenary will return!" On Naver, the newest Korean episode is 280, dated April 11, 2026, and the break flag is on. More on this break in our Teenage Mercenary hiatus explainer.

SSS-Class Revival Hunter

On Tapas, a notice from Team Tapas dated February 27, 2026 says: "Season 4 has come to a close and so we will be taking a hiatus before returning with season 5!" The page still says "Updates every Sun." Our SSS-Class Revival Hunter reading guide covers where Season 4 ends.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok

Tapas posted the same kind of notice on January 31, 2026: "Season 2 has come to a close and so we will be taking a hiatus before returning with season 3!" The page still says "Updates every Sat." Our Solo Leveling Ragnarok hiatus page explains why this break is a season gap and not an ending.

Doom Breaker: a long pause with no notice

Doom Breaker is the odd one out. Its English page ends at "(S2) Episode 101 (Season 2 Finale)," dated March 8, 2024, and unlike the others it has no "will return" note. The page still says "UP EVERY SATURDAY," which, as with Tower of God, means nothing on its own.

We list it with the other manhwa on hiatus because the Season 2 finale and the missing new season fit the hiatus pattern, but there is no official word either way. Our Doom Breaker reading guide covers the two finished seasons, and manhwa like Doom Breaker has picks for the wait.

If a long wait means switching platforms, this guide lists the official places to read manhwa in English.

Not on hiatus: The Beginning After the End

TBATE also runs on Tapas, so here is the check. The Tapas page listed 299 episodes, said "Updates every Thu," and its credits list Season 7. Unlike the SSS-Class Revival Hunter and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok pages, it had no hiatus announcement. Our Beginning After the End reading guide has the season-by-season path.

Why the Tapas closure matters for three of these

Tapas has announced it will shut down: "End of Tapas service: March 31, 2027 at 23:59 PT." SSS-Class Revival Hunter, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok and The Beginning After the End are all read on Tapas in English. For the two on break, that means the next season may not return to Tapas at all, if it starts after the shutdown. Nothing official has been said about where they go next. Our Tapas shutdown explainer covers what is confirmed so far, and our legal manhwa reading guide lists the other platforms.

Our Take: read the notice, not the label

This take rests only on the platform pages and data cited above. Count a series among the manhwa on hiatus when the platform says so, or when the newest episode is a season finale and nothing has followed. Don't trust the schedule label, and don't treat AniList's RELEASING as proof the series is still updating.

Then plan around what you know. Tower of God and Omniscient Reader are the big waits on WEBTOON, with no dates. If you read on Tapas, the March 31, 2027 closure is the one firm date in this whole picture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which popular manhwa are on hiatus right now?

As of our October 9, 2026 check: Tower of God, Omniscient Reader, Teenage Mercenary, SSS-Class Revival Hunter and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok all carry an official return note on WEBTOON or Tapas. Doom Breaker has had no new English episode since March 8, 2024.

Is Tower of God on hiatus?

Yes. The English WEBTOON page ends at the Season 3 finale, Ep. 235, dated February 23, 2025, and shows the note "Tower of God will be back!" Naver also has the Korean series marked as on break.

Is Omniscient Reader on hiatus?

Yes. Korean chapter 311 on Naver is labeled the last episode of Season 1, dated June 9, 2026. The English WEBTOON list ends at Episode 308, dated June 1, 2026, with the note "Omniscient Reader will return!" No Season 2 date has been posted.

Is The Beginning After the End on hiatus?

No. When we checked, the Tapas page listed 299 episodes, said "Updates every Thu" and had no hiatus announcement, unlike the Tapas pages for SSS-Class Revival Hunter and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.

How can I tell if a manhwa is on hiatus?

Look for the platform's own notice. WEBTOON adds a note above the episode list, such as "will return!" Tapas posts a Hiatus Announcement on the series page. The schedule label, like "UP EVERY MONDAY", stays up during breaks, so it tells you nothing.

Does AniList show when a manhwa is on hiatus?

AniList has a HIATUS status, but it is not always used. All six series on this list were marked RELEASING on AniList when we checked, even the ones with an official break notice.

How We Checked This

Every status, episode number and date on this manhwa on hiatus list was checked on October 9, 2026 against the series' official English pages on WEBTOON and Tapas, Naver Webtoon's series and episode data for the three Korean WEBTOON titles, Tapas' end-of-service notice, and AniList's record for each series, read through its public API. The Season 1 report for Omniscient Reader comes from ComicsBeat, the trailer from WEBTOON's YouTube channel, and the reader quote from one Reddit thread. Each fact has a row with a quoted line in our sources table.
