WEBTOON Fast Pass and Coins

WEBTOON has three levers, and readers mix them up all the time.

Fast Pass unlocks a series' newest episodes before their free release date, paid in coins. WEBTOON's help page says the number of coins "may vary depending on the WEBTOON series," and the app shows the price on each locked episode. In the US App Store the smallest bundle is 10 coins for $0.99, and 50 coins with 2 bonus coins cost $4.99. Coins bought in the Coin Shop "do not expire," Free Coins do, and an episode unlocked with Fast Pass stays yours while the series is on the service.

Ad Pass is the free route. You watch short ads to unlock eligible episodes, and each unlock lasts 3 days. It replaced Daily Pass, which WEBTOON removed in May 2025 without an announcement. Comics Beat reported the change on May 29, 2025: Daily Pass had unlocked one episode a day with 14-day access, and the episodes it covered now cost three coins each.

Readers split on the swap. In the r/webtoons thread on the removal, one reader argued "waiting 30 seconds for an ad to finish is way better than waiting 24 hours." Another liked Ad Pass too but worried about a cap "like only '7 ad pass available today' like some other series." Both are fair: ads are faster for a binge, and the eligible episodes are WEBTOON's call, not yours.

WEBTOON Premium is the subscription. It replaced Monthly Coin Premium on September 17, 2025. Each plan refills coins every month: $3.99 gets 20 plus 2 bonus, $9.99 gets 100 plus 10, $19.99 gets 200 plus 25, and $49.99 gets 500 plus 75. Premium also removes ads on Originals and discounts episodes, except on the cheapest plan.

Tapas Ink and Wait Until Free

Tapas priced episodes in Ink. On March 25, 2026 it raised older comics from 376 Ink (338 with 1-Tap) to 450 Ink (405 with 1-Tap), to match its newer series. 1-Tap is the combined buy-and-unlock button, and it was the cheaper way to pay.

Those prices now only matter for Ink you already hold. Tapas says the ability to get more Ink, "including free Ink," ended on October 1, 2026, Ink sales are final, and the service ends on March 31, 2027. Tapas has no subscription. What's left is the Wait Until Free timer on each premium series, which still unlocks episodes at no cost until the shutdown. Lezhin Coins and Wait Until Free

Lezhin is the mature-catalog platform, and its free tier is thinner than WEBTOON's but not empty. Lezhin's own guide says "WUF comics unlock for free every 3, 6, 12, or 24 hours," depending on the title, and it runs free and discounted comics on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Everything else costs coins. The US App Store lists bundles such as 240 coins plus 20 bonus for $5.99 and 400 coins plus 40 bonus for $9.99, so the base rate lands near 40 coins a dollar before bonuses. Lezhin's VIP membership page promises "up to 30% Discounts on Coin Bundles Every Day" but shows no monthly price, so check the app before you subscribe. Earlier versions of this guide quoted a VIP price we could no longer confirm, and we've removed it.

Kakao's Wait-or-Pay Model

Kakao built the wait-or-pay idea on KakaoPage in Korea, and its global KAKAO WEBTOON app sells it the same way: its Google Play listing says you can "Unlock episodes for free with 'Wait or pay' tickets" and that the app hands out gift tickets and rewards.

The catch for US readers is availability. On October 19, 2026, Apple's US App Store search for "kakao webtoon" returned KakaoPage (the Korean app), WEBTOON and Tapas, but no KAKAO WEBTOON app; the same search in Thailand's store listed it first. Kakao's English platform for North America was Tapas, and Kakao Entertainment announced on September 22 that it would shut Tapas down. Tapas purchases can't move to KakaoPage or Kakao Webtoon. So for a US reader, Kakao's model isn't a pricing option to compare right now.

These five steps get you to the cheapest platform for how you actually read.

1. Decide your reading pace. Do you read new episodes the day they drop, or catch up in batches? A reader following four or five ongoing series and refusing to wait will spend money anywhere. A patient reader spends close to nothing.

2. Use the free path first. WEBTOON's completed series and Ad Pass, Tapas's timers until March, Lezhin's WUF. Check whether waiting clears your patience before you buy anything.

3. Set a monthly cap before you buy currency. Coins are sold in small amounts that never feel like a bill until you add them up. Pick a number, five dollars or twenty, and spend against it.
