What you're starting
Sirone was abandoned in a stable as a baby and raised by a family of hunters. Peasant life is hard, but he learns to read young and gets obsessed with books, especially the history of magic. Then he meets a mage and learns how to enter the "spirit zone," the first step to using magic at all, in a world where only nobles are supposed to become mages.
That spirit zone is the idea the whole series runs on, so give the early explanation your full attention rather than skimming for the first fight. The appeal is a magic system that feels studied rather than gifted, and that only works if you followed how it starts.
One warning about expectations. On r/manhwa, readers are rough on the later arcs and kind about the early ones. "The academy arc was honestly peak, so everything after felt a bit messy, but the art alone still makes it worth checking out," one wrote in a thread defending the series. Another reader's complaint thread opens with "I miss when Infinite Mage was about unique math-based magic and academy life." Go in for the academy and the magic theory; that's what even the critics miss.

Tapas's hiatus notice is short: "Season 2 has come to a close and so we will be taking a hiatus before returning with season 3!" There's no date on it. For a new reader, that's good timing. You can read both seasons in order without catching up to a weekly schedule mid-arc.

How to read it before Tapas closes
- Use the free wait first. Everything except the newest 45 episodes unlocks on a one-day wait, so a patient reader can get through the first 105 episodes without paying.
- Don't stock up on Ink. Tapas stopped selling Ink on October 1, 2026, and any Ink you still have works only until March 31, 2027. Unlocked episodes disappear with the platform too.
- Finish both seasons before the end of March 2027. AniList lists no other English storefront, and no move has been announced.

Tapas also carries the original web novel, listed as The Infinite Mage Novel. It's one way to keep going during the hiatus, with the same catch: it's on the platform that's closing. REDICE, the studio behind the adaptation, posted a Korean trailer for the webtoon:

Read it now, during the break. Two seasons with a clean stopping point is the best version of this series to pick up, and the free wait covers more than two-thirds of it. The one thing we'd avoid is paying for episodes on Tapas you won't finish by March 2027: that money disappears with the app.
